About Bake My Day

At the age of 21, Ynja moved from Iceland to Denmark in January 2017 to study at university, which was her original plan. Instead, she decided to open a cake shop. This is where Bake my Day, as we know it today, was founded in December 2017 by Ynja Mist Aradóttir and Ester Ingvarsdóttir.

Initially, Ynja had no intention of opening a cake shop. Instead, she tried to make a living by holding exhibitions and selling art in both Iceland and Denmark. When a one-person cake business was about to close, Ynja was given the unique opportunity to purchase the remaining assets from this cake business. She felt it would be a shame if the hard work went to waste. Ynja had previously worked with cakes in Iceland. There, she gained experience from a similar cake shop, where she was the first employee and worked closely with the owner in the early years. But with no other experience, education, and having lived in Denmark for only a few months, she thought, "I've never tried that, so I can probably do it!"

Despite Ynja not being able to understand or speak Danish when she moved to Denmark, she still began exploring the possibilities. Already after approximately 2 months from when she got the idea, she signed the lease agreement for Amager Boulevard 126 and brought her mother, Ester Ingvarsdóttir, on the journey. Her mother took out a small loan in Iceland, and in January 2018, Ynja began setting up the kitchen in the basement of Amager Boulevard, as well as decorating the small cake shop of less than 20 sqm. In February 2018, she received her first orders out of the house. With help from her family, Ynja's father and brother, who came from Iceland and helped with the setup, they managed to officially open the cake shop on March 1, 2018.

With almost no capital and in such a short time, it was a strong accomplishment to be able to open the cake shop, even if it didn't look exactly as Ynja had envisioned from the start. Over time and with the many creative efforts from the team, the details fell into place, but after a good 4 years on Amager Boulevard, it was time to look in other directions, as production had become far too large for the small premises of 75 sqm. After the hard years with Corona, Ynja took a big chance, which fortunately turned out to be the best decision for Bake my Day. A contract was signed. We moved into the large new premises of 320 sqm at Amagerfælledvej 162, at the end of 2021. After the move, Bake my Day is on an exciting growth journey and even has plans for further expansion soon. Even if you don't have many resources from the start, things can still be done with courage, will, and resilience.

Today, the team at Bake my Day consists of 16 creative souls. We have delivered cakes to many of Denmark's largest companies and famous personalities, as well as a whole lot of other lovely customers. Some visit our café several times a week, and many order special birthday cakes year after year. In a short time, we have become one of Copenhagen's largest wedding cake suppliers and are known for our high quality and artistic expression. We look forward to all the orders and adventures that the future holds! From the bottom of our hearts, THANK YOU for being a part of our journey.
